Open art studio classes offered:
Drawing
The class will cover a different subject every week using the fundamental basics in drawing. In here the student will engage in the method of observation applying the different steps involved when understanding the nature of any subject such as line, form, gesture, shapes, angles, size, placement, composition, lights-shadows, and details.
Portrait drawing
Learn the basics of portraiture and gain a better understanding of line, gesture, angles, perception, light, shadows and composition. In this class, we will cover the essentials of understanding facial expressions, structure and likeness using the objective observation technique.
Figure drawing
This class is ideal for figurative artists and art students who are interested in taking the human figure to the next level. This class will develop technical aspects of drawing, such as gesture drawing, proportion, line qualities, lights and shadows, movement and the figure in perspective.
Portrait painting
This class explores step-by-step basic portrait painting by observation with classical and modern approaches. Participants will have full instruction on proportions and basic foundations as well as guidance regarding light, shadows, skin tone and color values. In this course we will focus on oils but you may also use acrylics if you desire.
Figure painting
This course will cover the fundamentals of the art of painting the human figure. Discover proportion and engage in methods of painting skin tones with different sources of light and shadow. In this course you will learn the Wet-on-wet, or alla prima (Italian, meaning at first attempt) painting technique, in which layers of wet paint are applied to previously administered layers of wet paint. This technique requires a fast way of working, because the work has to be finished before the first layers have dried.
Oil painting
This class will cover the essentials in learning painting on canvas, in particular oils. In here, the main objective is about learning the use and recognition of values before getting engaged in hues. Monochromatic painting, color theory, the use of light and shadows, composition, proportions, and other basic elements in painting will be covered.
